Napoleon, IN, Firefighter Suffers Heart Attack after Response

Dec. 6, 2024
Former Napoleon Fire Chief Ralph Meyer, 72, had served the department since he was 14.
Fire and rescue personnel in Napoleon are mourning the loss of a former chief.

Firefighter Ralph Meyer, 72, suffered an apparent heart attack around noon Wednesday, hours after working at a structure fire.

Involved in the fire service since he was 14, Meyer continues to save lives as he was an organ donor. It's estimated that between 100-150 people will benefit.

The Meyer family has been involved with the fire department for generations. His father served for 50 years, and his son, Steven, is the current fire chief. One of his brothers is the assistant chief while his granddaughter and grandson also serve, WKRC reported.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
