Pinedale, MS, Firefighter Dies after Falling from Brush Truck

Pinedale Firefighter Terry Dykes, 58, is the first responder to die in the line of duty in Union County.

A Pinedale firefighter who was working a brush fire in Union County Saturday died after falling from the top of a brush truck. 

Firefighter Terry Dykes, 58, died Monday at a hospital in Tupelo of head injuries sustained at a brush fire Saturday, Union County Emergency Management Director Carl Clayton told WTVA

Dykes is the first line of duty death of a firefighter in the history of Union County. He is Mississippi’s first firefighter line of duty death in 2025.

He had been a volunteer for 26 yeas, according to the U.S. Fire Adminstration.

Dykes is the 13th firefighter to die on duty so far this year.
